Q. What is NFRC?
A. National Fenestration Rating Council is the standardized measuring system that measures the energy performance of windows and doors. Go to www.nfrc.org for complete information.
 
Q. Are Western Window's products NFRC certified?

Q. Do Western Window's products qualify for the Energy Star program?

Q. Does Western Window sell retail?
A. No, we do not. Please see the Dealer Locator section for a list of authorized distributors in your area.
 
Q. What is the normal manufacturing lead time?
A. Typically, seven to ten working days.
 
Q. Are there additional charges for special sized windows and doors?
A. Windows are priced using the next largest standard size. Doors have special pricing due to the additional costs of tempered glass.
 
Q. What are the maximum and minimum sizes you can manufacture?
A. Please refer to the Size & Configuration section for all of the maximum/minimum information by series type.
 
Q. What is the Net Size of Western Window products?
A. Our windows are manufactured one half inch under the rough opening width and height. Example: A 5040 half slider would require a rough opening of 60 inches wide and 48 inches high. The net size of the window, measured from outside frame edge to outside frame edge on the width and height (excluding the nailing fin) would measure 59 ½" x 47 ½".
 
Q. What are the requirements to meet the egress code?
A. The window must have a clear opening width of 20 inches, a clear opening height of 24 inches, a total square footage of 5.7 square feet, and the sill of the window cannot be more than 44 inches from the finished floor level.
 
Q. What is the minimum size half slider and single hung windows that meet the egress code?
A. 4040 half slider and a 3050 single hung are the minimum egress windows.
 
Q. Can casement windows be used in egress situations?
A. Yes, special hardware is available to satisfy the egress requirements
 
Q. Why are vinyl windows welded at the corners?
A. To eliminate air and water infiltration and to keep the corners at a true 90 degree angle.
 
Q. Should vinyl windows be shimmed under the sill during installation?
A. No, the window sill should rest on a flat, even sill plate.
 
Q. Should the head of the window be nailed?
A. We recommend nailing the head of the window after the other three sides have been secured.
 
Q. What is the best way to clean vinyl windows?
A. We recommend a soft, non bleach cleaner.
